The Feelings Wheel — Explore and Name Your Emotion

Many people find it difficult to name their emotions because the feeling is vague, overwhelming, or somewhere they haven’t been before. Emotional literacy is one of the foundations of psychological wellbeing. When we can name what we’re experiencing, we can begin to understand it, communicate it, and work with it.

Naming a feeling is not the same as solving it. But it is a beginning. If you notice a feeling coming up repeatedly, or if you find yourself drawn to the more painful categories — that might be worth exploring further, whether on your own, in a journal, or with a therapist.
